CZAPEK 新作アンタークティック プリカジュール 発表!

CZAPEK announces new Antarctic Plique-a-Jour!

CZAPEK has launched a new collection to celebrate its 10th anniversary as an independent watchmaker. CZAPEK has built its creative approach on the simple yet challenging principle of "bringing traditional craftsmanship into dialogue with modern watchmaking."
The Antarctic Plique-à-Jour is an extension of that exploration, adapting ancient techniques typically used in jewellery and decorative arts to a model with a modern integrated steel bracelet.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the brand's revival, a special limited edition model of just 10 pieces has been released. The actual watch will be unveiled at Watch Time New York 2025.

The dial is made using the advanced enameling technique "Plique-à-jour," which originated in ancient Byzantine times.
The transparent blue enamel allows light to pass through, creating a fantastical reflection of the beating of the movement.

Equipped with the in-house developed skeleton movement (Cal. SXH7), it features a platinum micro-rotor for efficient winding and a power reserve of approximately 60 hours. This is truly an "art piece" where light and mechanism resonate with each other.

About the Plica Joule technique

"Plique-à-jour" literally translates to "letting sunlight through." Developed in the Byzantine Empire in the 6th century, it is one of the most challenging enameling techniques. Open, unlined metal cells are filled with transparent or translucent enamel and fired at temperatures of approximately 900°C. The enamel fuses to the metal frame, leaving nothing behind, allowing light to shine through, creating a radiance reminiscent of tiny stained-glass windows. Only a few workshops worldwide have mastered this sophisticated technique, due to its incredibly delicate and multi-step process. From color matching to achieve the desired color and transparency, to precise filling and layering of each cell, to precise temperature control to prevent cracks during high-temperature firing, and polishing in the final stage—every step requires consummate skill and patience.
The transparency of the finished enamel allows the structure of the movement beneath the dial to be seen, creating a unique aesthetic that directly links art and mechanics.
"What makes this dial so special and unique is precisely its transparency.
"While typical Plique-à-Jour often has tiny bubbles inside, making it slightly cloudy, this Antarctic Plique-à-Jour achieves complete transparency. It also features subtle color gradations, elevating this already astonishing technique to an even higher level," he continued.

Limited to 10 bottles to commemorate the 10th anniversary

The Antarctic Plique-à-Jour is limited to just 10 pieces. Each piece is uniquely crafted using hand-applied enameling techniques. The case back is engraved with a special logo commemorating the 10th anniversary of the brand's revival.
This series will be part of the 10th anniversary collection, following the release of the Antarctic Tourbillon in April 2025.
It epitomizes the Capek spirit of independence, passion and the pursuit of collaboration in modern watchmaking.
