Aventurine is a type of natural quartz crystal that is not native to Switzerland and is found in various regions, including India, China and Russia, and the glass is made using specific, often historical, techniques. Swiss watchmakers are now able to produce special aventurine glass.

Although the material itself is not Swiss, Swiss watchmakers use natural aventurine to create dials for luxury watches. Famous aventurine-style watches are made by Czapek, Girard-Perregaux, and Van Cleef & Arpels. They are typically crafted meticulously in the workshops of each watch company.

Of the 1,000 dials made, only 10% are actually used, which is one of the romantic aspects of watchmaking.

Traditional techniques developed in Switzerland

Swiss artisans, especially watchmakers, are known for skillfully cutting and polishing natural aventurine and aventurine glass to create dials and other luxury watch components. The "magic" of Swiss aventurine comes not from its manufacturing process, but from its careful use and application.
